Akerselva: A 8,2 kilometres long river rich in history, cutting through the city from Maridalsvannet (lake) in the north to Bjørvika and the Oslofjord in the south  Akerselva was the cradle of Norway’s industrialisation in the second half of the 19th century. Back then the river gave power to sawmills, textile factories and mechanical workshops.  Today you will find old industrial buildings next to wildlife, cosy restaurants and cafes, street art, beautiful waterfalls, parks and more. Nearly 50 bridges span the Akerselven and there are some 20 waterfalls.
