  • Most weasels live in the Northern Hemisphere
  • Weasels vary in length from 173 to 217 mm (6.8 to 8.5 in)
  • Along with their tubelike bodies, weasels have small flattened heads, long, flexible necks, and short limbs
  • Their long, slender bodies enable them to follow their prey into burrows
  • Weasels are usually brown with white or yellowish underparts. In winter the coats of weasels living in cold regions turn white
  • They are found in a wide range of habitats which include urban areas, lowland pasture, woodland, marshes and moors
  • Most of a weasel’s time awake consists of hunting, storing excess food and eating.
  • Weasels’ diets usually consist of rats, mice, voles and rabbits
  • They do tend to live around farms as the hedgerow habitat and plentiful food supply suits them
  • Weasels are generally solitary animals, except during mating season
  • Only around 10% survive to over 2 years old.
